In most cases, Give Lively fundraising pages detect if a donor's device/browser has Apple Pay or Google Pay enabled as a payment method. If detected, the relevant payment option automatically appears, except widget on websites hosted by Wix (which do not support digital wallets).

Read more about all of this in the sections below.

Which digital wallets work with Give Lively?

For donors who have enabled Apple Pay

  • Apple Pay will appear as a payment method on Give Lively fundraising pages and widgets, with the exception of widgets on Wix-hosted websites, where it’s not an option at all. In some cases involving widgets, you will need to register your web domain with Give Lively.
  • Apple Pay will only appear on iPhones and iPads (iOS 10 or later) using Safari and Touch ID or Face ID, and Macs (macOS Sierra or later) using Safari or with Touch ID.

For donors who have enabled Google Pay:

  • Google Pay will appear as a payment method on all Give Lively fundraising pages and widgets, with the exception of Wix-hosted websites, where it’s not an option at all.
  • Google Pay will appear on any Chrome or Android devices running Chrome 61 or newer.
  • IMPORTANT: Google Pay must be served over HTTPS, meaning your website must begin with HTTPS, not HTTP. This is true for use on Branded Donation Widgets as well.

Enable Apple Pay on the Simple Donation Widget or Branded Donation Widget

Once you have embedded the Simple Donation Widget or Branded Donation Widget on your site, there are up to three steps to ensure Apple Pay is available for your donors. You only need to do this once for your entire website since it will apply to all Give Lively widgets hosted on your site. Keep in mind when Apple Pay will appear.

For Wix-hosted websites

Apply Pay is not available at all on Wix-hosted websites.

For Squarespace-hosted websites

Email support+applepay@givelively.org with the following details and to register your domain as approved:

  • in the email’s subject line: the name of your nonprofit
  • in the body of the email: the URL where your widget is hosted.

For all other website hosts

  1. Ensure your website is being served over HTTPS.
  2. Download this domain association file and host it on your site at:
    /.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association
For example, if your website's domain is https://example.com, make that file available at https://example.com/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association. You'll know it's correctly hosted if you see the file when you go to that URL on your domain.
  3. Email support+applepay@givelively.org with the name of your nonprofit in the subject line and the URL where your widget is hosted in the body of the email. We will register your domain as approved.

If you run into difficulty following the steps above, we recommend reaching out to the support team of your website host. To make it easier to explain what you need, you can copy-paste this message:

Hi there,

I am trying to get Apple Pay to be available as a payment method on an embedded payment form on my site but I’ve gotten stuck. Here are the steps I need to follow: https://www.givelively.org/resources/enable-and-disable-digital-wallets#toc-enable-apple-pay-on-the-simple-donation-widget-or-branded-donation-widget.

Could you confirm that my site is served over HTTPS? That is a requirement for this to work.

Is there a way for you to follow the steps on your end? I need to host the required file (https://stripe.com/files/apple-pay/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association) on my site at: [insert your website domain]/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association.

Thank you!

Disable digital wallets on my pages

Digital wallets can’t be disabled on Give Lively fundraising pages.

A note about payment forms

Give Lively has two generations of payment forms in use. Your choice of features will dictate which form appears. At present, the use of digital wallets is supported by both generations of payment forms. Activation of this feature alongside the others on this list may trigger the second-generation payment form. Any combination of features beyond those detailed on the list will continue to see use of the first-generation form.

IMPORTANT: Both generations of payment forms guide donors through very similar giving experiences and there is no reason a nonprofit should favor one payment form over the other. Over the next few months, the new payment form will become the standard for all Give Lively donation pages. Learn more here.
